Da Nang Airport to Hoi An: taxi, Grab or private car?

Travel time, pros and cons, and what works best with kids and luggage.

Da Nang International Airport (DAD) is about 30 km from Hoi An Old Town. The drive takes 40–50 minutes on the coastal road, a little longer at rush hour. When you land, you have three easy options.

Taxi from the rank

Metered taxis wait outside arrivals. They are quick to find, but the final fare depends on traffic and the route, and many drivers speak little English.

Grab

Grab works well at the airport and shows the price before you book. At busy times a car can take a while to arrive, and a small car has little room for luggage.

Private car

A private car is booked in advance at a fixed price. The driver tracks your flight, waits at arrivals with a name sign and helps with your bags. It is the most relaxed choice for families, late arrivals and groups with a lot of luggage.

Which one should you choose?

  • Travelling light in the daytime: Grab is fine.
  • Kids, child seats or more than two suitcases: a private car.
  • Arriving late at night, or a group of five or more: a private car or a 7-seat MPV.

Tip: save your hotel address in Vietnamese on your phone. It helps every kind of driver.
